JusTea is a Vancouver-based tea company that sources directly from small-scale farming families in Kenya. By working without traditional brokers, the company aims to create a more transparent supply chain and return more value to tea-growing communities.

JusTea’s leaves are hand-picked and processed in small batches. Since 2012, the company has worked with the Katah family and the Nandi Hills community to develop an artisanal tea factory owned and operated by local farmers.

JusTea is also the first North American partner of the Kenyan Women’s Tea Co-op, where the company reports that women make up more than 80% of the workforce.

Its loose-leaf teas and tea bags are available in Canada and the United States. JusTea is a Fair Trade Federation member and uses reusable tins and plastic-free pyramid tea bags that it says compost in approximately three weeks. A portion of tea sales also supports Thrive gardens in Kenya.

Impact model

JusTea purchases tea directly from small-scale farming families in Kenya and says it pays fair prices for their crops. Its farmer-direct model is designed to shorten the supply chain, create more local value, and give producers greater participation in how tea is processed and sold.

In Nandi Hills, JusTea works with a farmer-owned artisanal factory that processes tea in small batches. The company also partners with the Kenyan Women’s Tea Co-op to bring women-produced herbal teas to North American customers.
