Soul Candy Skincare is an ethical skincare line designed for both Men & Women. Family owned and operated, the company is fueled by sustainability, creative enterprise, and community awareness. All of the products are organic, cruelty-free, ethically sourced, and handmade. Soul Candy Skincare didn’t start out like any other skincare brand. There was no branding session, no market research meetings, and no pitches being made to VCs. It was just a Mayhew family project that started as a dream in a mason jar and a desire to keep their kids healthy and chemical-free. Since that first mason jar the company has since grown into creating positive community partnerships and a boutique skincare line that services families who want to keep their skin clean and chemical free. They are on a mission to change the face of self-care.
1: When someone asks you what your company is, how do you explain it to them?
We are an organic, cruelty-free skin care line designed for both Men and Women intent on redefining the meaning of self-care. Our focus is on eco-chic design, simplicity of use, and therapeutic results.
2: What has been the most exciting thing about starting your social enterprise?
The most rewarding aspect of starting our own social enterprise is the community we’ve built along the way. Our business has been a vehicle for change both in pushing industry standards and in community education. We embody the principle “You are what you apply” and help families achieve a chemical free personal care routine that is still full of luxury and love.
3: What is the greatest struggle you face running a social enterprise?
Balance and focus. Realizing that while we want to revolutionize the entire industry, we won’t make any progress without focusing first on the small steps we need to take to get there. With that accompanies the ever present need for balance between business and family. I think that’s something most entrepreneurs can relate to. It’s an ongoing ballet performance orchestrated to the music of life.
